Smoking is one of the most dangerous habits people have, yet it’s so addictive that we have over 38 million people who smoke every day only in America! Smoking causes a great deterioration in our health. Our lungs are the ones which suffer especially. Many other health problems can appear. The complete well-being of a person becomes destroyed when he/she smokes. This is an article we’ll dedicate to the terrible effects smoking causes to us!
These Are Some Of The Health Problems Smoking Every Day Causes To Us:
As we have already mentioned, smoking affects our complete health which means it deteriorates our immune system, so coughs and colds become very common for us. Having these problems often can lead to the appearance of many more dangerous health problems like lung cancer, pneumonia and emphysema. According to researches, 83% of the deaths caused by smoking lead to the appearance of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and 84% of deaths are caused by lung cancer because of smoking.
The lung tissue becomes destroyed and the airways become narrowed so we don’t breathe good. Even the smallest activities will cause infections as well as phlegm.
Smoking is also known to cause throat and mouth cancer. More than 93% of all oropharyngeal cancers are caused by smoking!
If we smoke every day, our air passages will become restricted because of inflammation in our lungs. There are very small air sacs inside our lungs called alveoli. They are the ones that are responsible for the exchange of oxygen. This is what is the most destroyed by smoking.
Smokers are more susceptible to infections and colds because smoking destroys the very small hairs located in our airways called cilia. They help us eliminate the dirt and the mucus so that we have clean lungs. When they’re destroyed, our lungs don’t have anything that will help them be a filter for any contaminant, so infections appear more.
Smokers are known to have an increased risk of mortality. There was a study done in Norway which proved that women and men who smoked from 1 to 4 cigarettes every day had an increased risk of heart problems like ischemic heart disease. Women are more susceptible to an increased risk of lung cancer.
In this article, we’re also going to present you some videos about the way lungs of a person who smoked for 20 years looked like.
The videos were uploaded to Facebook by a nurse who comes from North Carolina. Her name is Amanda Eller. She compares the lungs of a person who is a smoker for 20 years and the lungs of a person who doesn’t smoke. The first video presents the lungs of a smoker when she blows air into the lungs. The second video presents the same thing but in the lungs of a person who is a non-smoker. The color of the lungs can easily tell us which ones are the smoker’s lungs. They are black. The ones that look healthy and are pink are the lungs of a person who doesn’t smoke.
Take A Look At Both Of The Videos:
When you pump air in the lungs of a non-smoker, their expansion is normal while the ones that belong to a smoker can’t expand well when you pump air inside of them.
Smoking is definitely bad, but many people just can’t give up of it because it’s a habit for them, it helps them deal with stress or avoid pressure. Every cigarette carries even 5,000 different chemicals inside that we get inside our lungs. Nicotine and tar are only some of them. In case stress is the problem for you, try exercising, yoga or meditation. Make some changes in your lifestyle. Practice more positive thinking! Stop smoking and live a healthier life! Your lungs and your whole body will be eternally grateful to you!
