When there is too much phlegm in our lungs, our throat and nose become obstructed. We also have increased coughing and difficulties breathing.

The mucus of the respiratory system secretes a sticky substance called phlegm. It protects us from dirt, allergies, dust and viruses.

Ginger is a natural decongestant and an antihistamine. Its properties are antiviral, expectorant and antibacterial. It will help us eliminate the excess of phlegm and alleviate any throat congestion. Ginger tea is the best way to consume it.
- 1 tsp of honey
- 2 cups of water
- 6 slices of ginger
- 1 tsp of peppercorn
Boil the water. Add the peppercorn and ginger in it. As soon as it starts boiling, cover it and cook for 1 more minute. Decrease the heat. The mixture should simmer for 5 minutes. Add the honey as soon as the tea has cooled down a bit.
Use: 2 cups of this tea every day will be enough.
Honey and lemon mixture
Both of the ingredients possess antibacterial and antifungal properties. The lemon will strengthen your immunity and prevent the congestion. It’s acid, so the breakdown of mucus will be faster.
You will need:
- 1 tbsp of honey
- 2 tbsp of lemon juice
Preparation: Combine both of the ingredients well. mixture.
Use: Take the mixture 3 times every day.
Steam will help you release the clogged mucus. Just boil 4 cups of water and combine it with ½ tsp of thyme and 1 tsp of dried rosemary. Take a large towel. Lean over the pot.
Then, cover your head using the towel. Inhale for 10 minutes. This procedure should be repeated several times a day.
Turmeric is full of curcumin with powerful antibacterial and antiseptic properties which can decrease the deposits of phlegm and eliminate all of the bacteria which were causing the mucus.
It will also improve the immunity. Combine 1 glass of warm water, ½ a teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Use it to gargle 3 or 4 times every day.
