Many people know that diet soda contains numerous ingredients which are dangerous for our health. One of the most dangerous compounds is aspartame. It is a sweetener that has been connected to various health problems like for example seizures.
According to a recent study done in a period of 10 years which examined more than 60.000 women, the results proved that women who drink more than 2 diet drinks every day have increased risks of heart problems and can also die because of those diseases!
This has been the largest study conducted by The University of Iowa.
Previously, the diet drinks were connected to the metabolic syndrome, but now there are even more links than that.
Many other factors were included in the research like: hormone therapy use, body mass index, energy intake, smoking, hypertension, salt intake, high cholesterol, physical activity, diabetes, etc.
The women who consumed more than 2 of these drinks were probably smokers, they were younger and their body mass index was higher. They also had high blood pressure and diabetes.
Soda sales slipping
Luckily, this study managed to slip the sales of diet soda!
The Time Magazine claims:
That one of the reasons might be the awareness of obesity that is growing as well as the people becoming more aware about their health and the beverages they intake which are high in sugar. Many beverages have started to go down with their sales, even the ones that are claimed to be diet because of the concern about artificial sweeteners. Nowadays, people can use various natural sweeteners that are far healthier than aspartame and don’t cause any side-effects.
Still, the decline in the sales doesn’t mean that people are less exposed to GM food or sweeteners. The corn syrup high in fructose is also very dangerous and it is present in numerous products we use every day. The health risks its regular use carries are enormous.
