Dogs may be super-cute, but is there anything cuter than a koala? The Aussie cuties are not pets – they live in the wild and can’t be domesticated. At least everyone thought so until Kerry McKinnon proved us wrong.
After coming back home one day, Kerry was surprised to find her dog Asha with a tiny animal on her back. She was shocked to see that it was a baby koala! The poor dog didn’t know what to do, sitting there helplessly and hoping that Kerry would help get the ‘pest’ off her back. Kerry didn’t know what to do as well. She burst out laughing and confused the dog even further. The dog didn’t move or try to push the koala off its back. Thanks to her protective instinct, Asha was credited with saving the poor koala.
Kerry thinks that the koala was too cold that day and that’s probably why it hopped on Asha’s back. The dog’s protective instinct jumped in and it kept the poor thing warm the whole morning. If it wasn’t for Asha, the cute little fella might not have survived the night.
Separating the two new friends was no easy task. Whenever Kerry attempted to move the koala, it got angry. She eventually managed to separate it and got it to a vet who found it healthy. However, it couldn’t return to the wild at once – it was too young for that kind of thing.
Asha and the baby koala really hit it off. “I didn’t really know what to do – it was such as shock!”, Kerry said.
“It probably fell out of his momma’s pouch and found Asha warm enough”.
“If it wasn’t for Asha, it would have died for sure”.
