If you feel that something is stuck in the throat and you cannot swallow or maybe even breathe, apparently you have tonsil stones. The tonsil stones are white and small spots on the tonsil that you often do not notice.
Why the tonsil stones occur?
Tonsil stones happen as a result of skin cell or food particle accumulations, bacteria, mucus in the tonsil crypt. They are yellowish or white and soft. They can disappear on their own.
However, sometimes if they develop a lot, they provoke some problems like a respiratory problem, difficulties when swallowing, irritated throat and bad breath.
Who has this problem?
Tonsil stones can occur to anyone. However, they usually happen after you had chronic throat inflammations or they can occur to people that have bad oral hygiene or they have larger tonsils and that is increasing the risk.
So after you are diagnosed with this issue, you need to do a tonsillectomy. In fact, that is removing the tonsils with a surgery.
This procedure can fix the problem and it prevents the reoccurrence. However. the procedure is not 100 % efficient.
If you remove the tonsils, you will increase your risk of getting viral and bacterial infections since the tonsils are preventing these infections.
Do you know how to resolve the problem in some other way?
The surgery is not the only solution of this issue. There are some other methods that you can do it at home such as:
You can use a long Q-tip to remove the stones. Open the mouth in front of your mirror and push your tonsils with this Q-tip until you have dislodged them. Use some pressure and the tonsils stone will come right out.
- Dental irrigation syringe
Dental irrigation syringes can be used to flush the tonsil stones outside. The curved top should be pointed toward the affected tonsil and you need to flush it away.
You need to place your head downwards and the stones will fall from the mouth. Use a mix of equal parts of 3$ hydrogen peroxide and water for this irrigation.
This is a more efficient method than the Q-tip since it helps you remove the stones that are deeper and which you cannot see them in your mirror.
- Oral irrigators
The nozzle should be pointed toward the tonsil and you need to flash the stones out.
The irrigator has one motor and it is a little more aggressive and that makes it different from the previous procedure. Set the functions to the lowest setting and you will not hurt yourself.
- Oral probiotic
The probiotics can also be used to remove the tonsil stone. They are really powerful and kill the bacteria that provoke the tonsil stones. There are a lot of diverse oral probiotics.
The most effective probiotic for tonsil stones is S. Salivarius K12.
How can you use it? – You should open the capsule and put it in a glass of lukewarm water.
You should swish the mix and you should make a gargle by putting the head back so you can reach the tonsil stones. Then, you should spit this out.
All in all, you need to use a good tooth paste and chewing gum and to wash your teeth regularly to prevent and eliminate this problem.
