The earth is a place where many products reside. One of them is the yellow liquid which we use in order to produce motor oil and gasoline and its name is petroleum. This liquid can be refined and in this way, it’s used in different food products. Many of those products are unfortunately for children.
They are added as preservatives and as the attractive flavors or food coloring for the snacks that children adore. Some of the most well-known variations are red dye #40 and yellow dye #5.
The USA’s FDA doesn’t consider the petroleum products present in American food a threat, but some countries have already banned their use.
Here are some of the effects that artificial food dye has caused, according to some studies:
- Chromosomal damage
- Birth defects
- Organ damage
- Allergic reactions
The food dye used in products is often impure and is considered to be toxic. It has been banned in Europe since 2009 and 2010.
Yellow 6, Red 40 and Yellow 5 are used in most foods.
Some experts even claim that fresh fruit, like for example oranges is dipped inside some of these dyes so that their color could be uniform and bright.
Researches show that Red 40 can cause hyperactive reactions and allergies in children, but in mice it causes immune-system tumors.
The same effects were also attributed to Yellow 5 as well as some carcinogenic substances which are known to cause organ damage.
Hypersensitivity in children was attributed to Yellow 6. In animals, it caused adrenal tumors.
These are some of the most popular foods children like to consume that you should definitely avoid!
